NEASRNA  History:
The New England Assembly of Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (NEASRNA) has been in existence since 1981. The founder and first Chairman was Bill Evans, at that time a student in the Pawtucket Memorial Hospital Nurse Anesthesia program in Rhode Island. The assembly was formed to provide student representation at the New England Assembly of School Faculty (NEASFA).

NEASRNA  Purpose:  Serves as a vehicle for anesthesia students, in the New England, New Jersey & New York areas to assemble and exchange ideas of common concern. NEASRNA serves as a communication link between the student body and school faculty.

The assembly assists students in gaining insight and experience in the following areas:

Faculty and student communication, Collegial networks, Group processes, role responsibility, and leadership, National and professional issues, lobbying activities, Professional commitment and participation, Continuing education

NEASRNA  Objectives:

To facilitate communication pathways between the NEASFA and the NEASRNA.

To plan and execute student group meetings to enhance communication, education, and professional involvement.

To organize/create committees within NEASRNA: nominations, fundraising, professional issues, and education committee.

To promote camaraderie among fellow student nurse anesthetists.

To encourage student participation in NEASRNA.

To meet at least four times per year in order to adequately meet these objectives.

To review these objectives and revise them as necessary.

NEASRNA  Structure:
All students enrolled in Nurse Anesthesia programs in the New England, New Jersey & New York areas are members of NEASRNA. Each school shall have two representatives, one first year and one second year student. The representatives will either be selected by their classmates or appointed by a faculty member. These representatives will comprise the NEASRNA Student Government, and will be responsible for providing and maintaning an ongoing communication link between the NEASRNA, its members, and the NEASFA.

The Board of Directors will preside over the Student Government, consisting of a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer. In addition, officers for the next fiscal year shall be elected and titled president-elect, vice president-elect, secretary-elect, and treasurer-elect. This elected Board of Directors will shadow the active Board and assume full responsibilities during the next fiscal year. Elections for each office are held annually at the last fiscal meeting.

The fiscal year is September 1st to August 31st. Four eight-hour meetings will be held each year, generally on Fridays. A centralized meeting location will be determined by the Student Government annually and by majority vote.
